About the Sustainable Ecological Crop and Horticultural Conference

The Namibia Organic Association, the Namibia Agronomic Board and the MAWF will host two conferences with the aim of increasing agricultural production and share the latest information on sustainable, ecological agricultural methods. Two conferences will be held, geared to large commercial farmers and small-scale farmers.

The topics of the conferences are as follows:

Soils

1. Building soil fertility based approaches
2. Improving the water holding capacity of soils
3. Dynamics and importance of soil microbiology
4. Practical workshop: making small and large scale compost

Production

1. Sustainable agricultural production practices for climate change resilience
2. Case study: SEKEM – production in the Egyptian desert
3. Global G.A.P. standards
4. Packaging and postharvesting management

Pest and Disease Control

1. Ecological pest & disease control: main horticultural & fruit crops
2. Preparation of own pest control products

Markets

1. Overview of consumer behavior changes in demand for fruit & vegetable products
2. Overview of (i) international, (ii) regional and (iii) local market demand for organic products

1. Earning income by trading carbon credits in sustainable agriculture
